Sometimes it seems that every day we learn about new environmental problems or concerning issues. This can feel overwhelming and make it hard to know what to do. World Environment Day, which is June 5, is a United Nations celebration to help us all answer the question of what we can do to help.
It’s a day focused on advocacy, outreach, and education. At Flo Pro Plumbing we think that one of the things we learn from this celebration is that when it comes to the environment, even small changes can have an impact, especially if we all make those changes.
In that spirit and in honor of World Environment Day, we’re working to think of ways – no matter how big or small – that we can help the environment. One thing we can all do is work to use less water. Here are some tips to help you save some water and, as an added bonus, save some money on your water bill.
Do you Have a Low-Flush Toilet?
Low-flush toilets are an easy way to decrease the amount of water that your bathroom plumbing uses. While full-flush toilets use over 3 gallons of water per flush, low-flush toilets use 1.6 gallons or less.
These toilets are now just as effective as full-flush toilets while using half of the water. If your bathroom plumbing was installed before 1994, there’s a good chance that you have a full-flush toilet.
So, take some time to figure out if you have low-flush toilets in your home and, if you don’t, plan to install them as soon as possible. This will decrease your water usage and the amount that you spend on your water bill.
Are your Shower Faucets in Good Condition?
It’s not unusual for a shower faucet to have a small drip or leak that goes unnoticed for long periods of time.
While this might seem like a small amount of water, it can really take a toll on your water bill and the amount of water that your bathroom plumbing uses.
Avoid wasting water this way by ensuring that all faucets in your house are in good condition and don’t have any drips or leaks. If you find any, plan to have them repaired as soon as possible, no matter how small the leak might seem. This is a simple way to improve the condition of your plumbing while also making sure that you’re not wasting water.
When Did you Last Inspect Your Home’s Pipes?
Much like a small leak from a faucet, any water leaks in your home’s pipes could result in lots of wasted water. They could also indicate a bigger problem and might be a sign that maintenance is necessary.
If you have not done it recently, make sure that you inspect all of the pipes in your home to make sure that they are not leaking and that they’re in good condition.
